Laz's Picks

Laz (they/he pronouns) is a Mainer and honorary Nevadan who has called Washington, DC home for over a decade. He is a lover of anything weird and speculative, including horror, fantasy, magical realism, folklore/fairy tale retellings, scifi, and experimental fiction. On the flip side, they also love tender and cozy middle grade reads (typically graphic novels). Some of his favorite titles include The Goose of Hermogenes by Ithell Colquhoun; Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke; Sister, Maiden, Monster by Lucy A. Snyder; Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell; The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells; The Doorman by Reinaldo Arenas; The Moth Keeper by Kay O'Neill; The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen; The Girl From the Sea by Lee Knox Ostertag; and Goodbye, Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.

Literary Likes: weird, heartwarming, short but sweet (love novellas & short stories), strong character development and world building, "unlikeable" main characters.

Literary Dislikes: too long, rushed endings, over-complicated or nonsensical world building, overly romantic or sexual stories.
